Welcome  to  Kiwanis de Amigos

We are a service organization serving the children of the greater Tucson community. We meet every Tuesday at the local IHOP on the corner of East Grant Road and Rosemont Blvd. beginning at 7:00 a.m. Please look on our calendar to see the weekly speaker.

On Saturday, November 21 we held our annual Rummage Sale. Fortunately for Kiwanis de Amigos, the temperature was forecasted to be good but windy.  The temperature was good but the wind waited until later.  Most of the energetic members got there about 5:45 AM and started to unload the trucks.

The pre-sale at Big Brothers/Big Sisters eliminated some of the large and heavy furniture but not enough so it went to the rummage sale location.

A few early riser customers showed and bought a few items but the majority of the buyers and lookers arrived after 9am when the gun shop opened.  Surprisingly, the sale attendance wasn’t affected too much by the Tour de Tucson circling the city.

Chairman Larry Ross did a great job setting things up and extends a warm thanks to those members who loaded and unloaded the 2 trucks.  He gives a special thank you to those who help re-load the merchandise that had to be taken back to BB/BS.

Member Dave Bertagnoli was up at 4am, loaded and unloaded the trucks and, in the photo below, is looking for airplanes.

The sale, counting both the pre-sale: $1,957, final sale: $1,507 = total:  $3,464 minus approximately $300 expenses.   Great job everyone, the money will be used for future service projects.

Our major community events and activities include the following:

Kiwanis de Amigos Rattlesnake Run Cross Country Meet for Middle Schools at Columbus Park.  Every fall since 2003.  Free - no cost to schools or athletes. The 13th Annual Kiwanis de Amigos Rattlesnake Run was run on September 12 and by all accounts it was a big success. Over 450 middle school athletes participated and Congresswoman Martha McSally presented medals to the winners. Results are available by clicking here, and you can click here to see photos of the event.

Kiwanis de Amigos Relays Track Meet for Middle Schools at Drachman Track and Field Stadium, University of Arizona.  Every spring since 2001. Free - no cost to schools or athletes. The 13th Annual Kiwanis de Amigos Relays took place on April 18, 2015.  Click here for more information.
