Welcome  to  Kiwanis de Amigos

We are a service organization serving the children of the greater Tucson community. We meet every Tuesday at the local IHOP on the corner of East Grant Road and Rosemont Blvd. beginning at 7:00 a.m. Please look on our calendar to see the weekly speaker. You can learn more about Kiwanis and Kiwanis de Amigos by reading our handbook and be sure to check out our year end Newsletter.

On Tuesday February 2 (Groundhog's Day) Kiwanis de Amigos member Dean Sipe was presented with the Walter Zeller Fellowship Award.

Dean and Elizabeth celebrate their award

In 1940, one year after the Kiwanis International Foundation was established as a legal entity, Walter Zeller made the first donation: 25 Canadian silver dollars that he hoped would turn into the foundation's nest egg.

This donor's dream came true. Auctioned for US$625, his coins launched the Kiwanis International Foundation's worldwide service efforts. Thousands of donors later, the foundation has grown into a multi-million dollar organization that awards grants to Kiwanis clubs and underwrites life-altering worldwide service projects.

Zeller gave much of his life to philanthropy, serving as the Montreal Director of the YMCA and staying involved in many capacities with his Kiwanis club. He served as the Montreal President and Governor of the Ontario-Quebec-Maritime District.

On behalf of The Eliminate Project, we are proud to honor Walter Zeller's commitment to service by creating the Walter Zeller Fellowship. This is a very special opportunity designed exclusively for The Eliminate Project. All of us at Kiwanis de Amigos are proud of Dean and his many contributions during his 30 year membership.

On Saturday January 16 the Kiwanis de Amigos, and other clubs from the Southwest District of Kiwanis International, participated in "Celebrate Our Superstars" at Pima Community College. In collaboration with the Southern Arizona Mentoring Coalition we were able to sponsor a day of athletic activities for boys and girls in 1st through 8th grades. The kids showed off their athletic skills and superstar form and everyone had a great time!
